International event management agency Carlson Wagonlit Travel (CWT)’s smartphone app, CWT To Go, has won this year’s Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) Innovation of the Year award.

The Outstanding Apps category includes applications that help business travellers make best use of their time while travelling.

The app is available exclusively to CWT clients worldwide via Android, BlackBerry, and iPhone devices. CWT To Go provides automatic synchronisation of offline and online CWT bookings, flight notifications, access to relevant trip-related information and developed with CWT’s e-Commerce partner, Rearden Commerce.

“We are delighted that CWT To Go has been recognised in this way, particularly as business travellers themselves voted for the award,” says President of Suppliers, Products and Technology for CWT, Andrew Winterton. “We are continually looking at new ways to delight travellers by making sure they have the services they need at their fingertips,” he adds.

CWT recently asked those travellers using CWT To Go to measure their levels of satisfaction with the app and to find out what new features they would like to see. CWT saw positive results to questions on satisfaction, with over 82 percent of users declaring they would recommend the app to a colleague.

Respondents indicated that the mobile services they value and use most are those that increase their convenience and efficiency during a trip. Travellers rank automatic itinerary synchronisation as the most important mobile feature, with access to flight notifications and alerts and mobile check-in the next most popular.

“The vast majority of travellers use apps to help increase productivity and reduce stress; they are looking for apps with features that continue to give them more control over their travel experience,” Winterton adds. “This type of insight is essential to help keep our products in line with what travellers need.

“Mobile technology is an integral part of our strategy; we are constantly looking at how it can best be adapted to meet the needs of travellers,” he adds.
