Talk to insurance companies about the weather

Where has the British summer gone? Maybe it
went a while ago and I didn’t notice but this year more than ever has
reinforced the unpredictability of the weather which in turn has affected a
number of events across the country.

It has been really distressing to see so many
events washed out. Little recompense I know from having insurance that covers
cancellation due to adverse weather but at least it would be something.

Many requests for adverse weather cover are
made just too late to insurance companies. As a rule of thumb, cover is
available but only if it is bought at least two weeks from before the event.

If you are running an event that is weather
dependent then at the very least consider what will happen if your event cannot
go ahead due to adverse weather. Who will you have to pay, who will need to be
refunded and can you cover the costs from your own reserves?

Insurance companies that specialise in cancellation cover will welcome your enquiry especially when it is made a good
time in advance of your event. They have lots of experience from many years of
insuring events and their knowledge can be invaluable.

If at the moment you are worried about
having to cancel or postpone your event, be sure to speak to your insurance
company or advisor and make sure you work with them to minimise any loss you
may have. Loss Adjustors are available to be used in advance of a possible
claim and not just when it has happened.
