Venue sourcing and event management agency, Conference Care, has recruited two undergraduates under the Hotel Booking Agents Association’s (HBAA) National Graduate Placement Scheme.
The scheme, a key objective for the HBAA for 2012, offers a full year certified industrial placement along with the benefit of the association’s respected programme of events. It is an opportunity for students to gain knowledge of the events industry from a venue or agent’s perspective.
Coventry University is one of a number of universities which offers event management-related degrees and is supporting the initiative.
Following a visit from Conference Care Director Chris Peacock in February to promote the scheme, the company was “inundated with applications”. After a selection process, two 12-month placements were offered to Jade Smith and Vesela Asenova, who are studying for a BA Honours Degree in Events Management.
Smith said “it was great to have a personal visit from a director of an agency to the university; it gave us a valuable insight into the workings of a real business”.
The students will begin their placements in July and September 2012 at the company’s head office in Coventry.
Deakin said: “The scheme is about developing future talent for the sector. By helping students get the best start they can, we are supporting the Industry, and investing in both their future and our own.”
