Representatives of 37 venues from across Manchester met in London last night for ’Manchester Live’ amid news that Manchester had jumped six places from 86th to 79th in the latest Internaitonal Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) rankings.

Managing Director of Visit Manchester Paul Simpson, said: “This was our third Manchester Live event and it was a great success. The Roof Gardens in Kensington is an incredible venue and our guests were able to enjoy the surroundings while networking with 37 of the city’s hotels, venues and service providers.

“We look forward to working with our partners on the business leads discussed at the event and spreading the word of what Manchester has to offer the UK conference industry,” he continued.

Since the destination showcase last year, Simpson said: “The Monastery in Manchester picked up the title of Most Unusual Venue in the UK, Lancashire County Cricket Club commenced phase two of its £32m redevelopment and Manchester Metropolitan University unveiled stunning new conference facilities in their new Business School.

“We’ve also seen the final touches made to the National Football Museum, which will open in the city’s Urbis building on Friday 6 July,” he added.

Manchester Live encouraged guests to meet with as many venues as possible, offering prizes such as a weekend stay at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate and a signed football shirt from Manchester United Football Club, if they collected a minimum of 20 stickers from the event exhibitors.
