Owners of the Best Western Falmouth Beach conference hotel and spa in Cornwall, which was ravaged by fire last week, say they plan to rebuild the property.

The Evans family, who have owned the property since 1984, say demolition has already begun and once the hotel is rebuilt it will be “bigger and better” than before.

The 120-bedroom seont hotel, conference centre and spa was destroyed by fire on 30 April. According to a report on the BBC at the time, the fire started on the third floor of the four-storey property, but spread throughout and the roof collapsed.

The Mayor of Falmouth, Geoffrey Evans, told the news site the fire was a “complete disaster”. “It’s right at the start of the holiday season, we’ve got the Olympic Torch coming in a few weeks, and the Finn Cup (sailing competition) as well, so I don’t know how this is going to affect accommodation,” he said. “I think the hotel was fully booked, so to lose such a prominent hotel at this time of the year is a complete disaster.”

The hotel says it has contacted most of its business clients, but says guests wishing to know further information about their planned booking should contact the reservations team on: 0845 313 0114.
