The Barbican is to host the 2012 Carnegie Book Awards, as the awards celebrates its 75th anniversary.

The children’s book awards will take place on June 14, in the Barbican’s Cinema 1, followed by a reception in the Garden Room and Conservatory.

The awards are a presentation of two medals; the Carnegie Medal, and the Kate Greenway Medal, which is awarded for outstanding illustration in a book for children and young people. Both medals are awarded annually by the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals.

“The unique spaces and atmosphere created at the Barbican provide the perfect setting for prestigious events like the Carnegie Book Awards. We are delighted at the decision to choose the Barbican for this event and we look forward to welcoming the event in June,” says General Manager of Barbican Business Events, Anthony Hyde.
