SIV student events generate £1m for Sheffield economy

With the National Union of Students (NUS) conference at City Hall this week, venue operator Sheffield International Venues (SIV) claims it now has welcomed 10,000 students in last 12 months generating, over £1m in economic impact for the city.
 
SIV has hosted the UK School Games 2011 and the British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS) Championship 2012 – an event which has been held across the city for the last five years.
 
The company also hosts the Sheffield Hallam University graduations each year, as well as numerous student balls and exams.
 
The three-day annual NUS Conference has 1,500 students attending and finishes 26 April 2012. The SIV events team secured the business following their delivery of the Liberal Democrat Spring Conference at the City Hall in March 2011.
 
NUS will also bring its national conference to the city in April 2013, with both events adding up to £2m of value for Sheffield.

SIV is the operating arm of Sheffield City Trust (SCT), a charitable limited company. It operates a portfolio of 19 venues and hosts hosts more than 2,000 events every year.
