Cust has 25 years experience in senior commercial business management experience and a background of business growth and profitability in consumer leisure markets. His is currently the Executive Chairman of the York-based Amber Travel Partnership (encompassing Great Rail Journeys, Treyn Holidays and Rail Select).

“My ambition for York is to build on the world class reputation of the city, ensuring we deliver the highest levels of customer care and, all importantly, a quality visitor experience, whilst taking York to new markets across the globe,” he said.

The newly-appointed Chairman, a position which carries no remuneration, will play a vital role in developing the strategic direction for tourism in York and driving the growth of the visitor economy. Tourism in York is worth £443m a year, with seven million people visiting the city every year.

“Nick’s experience in financial management, marketing, communications and strategic business planning will be key assets,” says Chief Executive of Visit York, Gillian Cruddas MBE.
