The recently launched Centre for Events Professional Development (CEPD), part of the University of Derby Corporate (UDC), has launched an educational product, Event Control, for event professionals looking to broaden their skills on the job.
The course will combine theory and practice and is squarely aimed at those already working in the meetings and events sector. It offers training in communication and control across a broad range of events including sports, community, concerts and festivals.
Aworkshop at UDC’s Enterprise Centre in Derby kicks off the course, 1 March. Using event control scenarios and case studies from industry, the programme is being delivered in partnership with MRL Safety Ltd, a company specialising in delivering control room operations.
Attendees will be offered an overview of event control operations and the planning behind their use. Learning will continue online, with tutor support to help develop a detailed Event Control Plan based on the attendees’ own work places.
Those completing the course will receive a recognised University award, worth 20 credits towards their continuing professional development.
Conor Moss, Head of Learning Solutions at University of Derby Corporate, said: “The content has been based around theory, practical workshops and realistic event scenarios so it offers direct vocational value which can be immediately applied to real life. It’s ideal for anyone who recognises the importance of professional development and is looking to refresh or enhance their skills.”
In addition to gaining as much practical experience as possible, learning is also supported with a preparatory workbook detailing the legislative responsibilities of an event control.
