Cardiff Council has extended its financial support for marketing company Cardiff & Co for a further year.
Last year Cardiff Council asked the company for a five-year business plan and committed funding against the first three years of that plan.
Now, one year into the arrangement, the council has decided to add a further year’s funding for Cardiff & Co.
The marketing agency was set up in 2007 to promote the Cardiff city region to the world. Cardiff Council has agreed to provide at least £500,000 for each of the next three years.
The increased commitment from Cardiff Council will cover the £250,000 contribution from the Cardiff Harbour Authority, which comes to an end next year.
Cardiff & Co Chairman Adrian Clark said: “Last year’s agreement with the council secured the company and enabled the board to make secure plans for a full five years. The extra assurance this renewed investment brings will strengthen the company and ensure that it can promote the city region effectively to its target markets.”
Managing Director Richard Thomas said: “Cardiff Council has shown confidence in the company and its board. Their timing is perfect as the incoming MD and the Board will now be able to plan the company’s marketing and promotion of the city-region with the certainty that core investment is in place. Having such certainty will also help the company’s efforts in attracting private sector investment to match that coming from the public sector.”
Chief Executive of Aviva, Trevor Matthews, has been announced as the keynote at the Cardiff & Co Gala Dinner 2012. The gala will take place on 29 November 2012.
Roger Pride (pictured) takes over from Thomas this month. He moves on secondment from the Welsh Government for an initial 18 months.
Clark said: “Roger Pride is a highly respected and experienced marketing professional. His background in tourism and his close links to the Welsh business community through his work with the Welsh Government will be a huge asset for Cardiff & Co.”
