New
research conducted by the Event Production Show has indicated spending
on municipal events to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012
could exceed those during the Royal Wedding this year.

The
Diamond Jubilee will be celebrated across an extended long weekend from 2
to 5 June 2012. The special bank holiday weekend is expected to boost
UK leisure and tourism spending by £620m, according to the Department
for Media Culture and Sport’s economic impact study.

Ocean
Media, organiser of The Event Production Show, said 22 per cent of
attendees already registered for the event represent a public body or
local authority compared with 13 per cent in November 2010 ahead of its
2011 show.

The Event Production Show will be held at Olympia
from 1 to 2 February 2012 and includes sessions on municipal and
contingency planning. Speakers range from Westminster City Council
planning commissioner Tim Owen and Live Nation COO Music John Probyn to Head of Metropolitan Policy Olympia and Paralympic venues planning team
Inspector Stuart Cornish.

“We have seen an early spike of
registrations from representatives of public bodies, no doubt preparing
for a summer of events headlined by the Diamond Jubilee,” Event
Production Show Event Manager Sarah Brownlee.

“While the Royal
Wedding was well received throughout the country, the Diamond Jubilee is
another historic occasion which will be celebrated globally and local
authorities are evidently keen to get their communities involved.”

Highlights
of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations include one of the largest
flotillas ever assembled on the Thames led by Her Majesty The Queen.
Both The Edinburgh Tattoo and the British Military Tournament will also
focus on the Monarch’s 60th year.

Reported three figure
celebrations have been budgeted by local authorities including Guilford,
Salisbury and Brighton as well as smaller pledges from many of the UK’s
parishes. A nationwide ‘Big Jubilee Lunch’ will also encourage people to
celebrate on 3 June, while a live music concert will take place at
Buckingham palace on 4 June. All official beacon events will be listed
in a special commemorative book that will be given to The Queen after
the event.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for everyone, from
the smallest community groups to the largest country estates to be part
of this once-in-a-lifetime event,” said pageant master of The Queen’s
Diamond Jubilee Beacons Bruno Peek.
