Millbrook, Luton Road Safety Team and Central Bedfordshire Council Road SafetyMillbrook, Luton Road Safety Team and Central Bedfordshire Council Road Safety Team have united with an aim of reducing road casualties, using a local initiative called “MORE” – Motivation, Observation, Response, Education.

MORE driver courses are for 17 to 30-year-olds who are learning to drive or have received their licence, and are living in Bedfordshire or Luton. The event on the 24th March saw nearly eighty guests arrive on site to make use of the ‘Pod’ venue and tracks.

The day was geared around advice for those new to managing a car, and included a session from Honest John on what to look for when buying a second hand car, as well as advice on vehicle modifications.

While the young drivers were engaged in the various sessions, their parents and guardians received a separate presentation and were taken on a 4×4 off-road driving experience.

Kevin Leaver, head of events at Millbrook said: “This is an important initiative that arms new drivers with essential knowledge to keep themselves, their passengers and other road users safe. The courses have been tremendously popular and we are pleased that the initiative has returned to Millbrook for another year.”

Tim Oxley, senior road safety officer – Highways, Central Bedfordshire Council added: “The event went really well, and we were pleased to see nearly eighty guests arrive on site over the course of the day. This has been a really important initiative for us to engage people as they start to learn to drive. Talking about the responsibility of owning and maintaining a vehicle is an important process, and everyone left the day with some good tips on looking after their car.

“Small mistakes can cost lives so by reinforcing safety lessons and driving techniques we hope to help these young people remain safe on the roads. As exciting as it is to learn to drive, they need to take care of themselves, their passengers and other road users. Millbrook was the perfect location for this and we used the variety of tracks available to demonstrate a wide range of driving conditions, from hill and off-road to high speed and skid simulation.”
