Inntel has launched its Sustainable Venue Programme, a new initiative designed to help clients meet their sustainability goals while streamlining the venue finding process.

The launch supports event bookers in making faster, more informed decisions with carbon budgets in mind.

The Sustainable Venue Programme, with over 500 UK venues already onboard, highlights suppliers in Inntel’s LOGiC Meetings platform that meet key sustainability criteria set by in-house ESG specialists. It complements existing ESG accreditations by providing a consistent framework to identify eco-friendly venues. These venues are easily recognisable to Inntel’s clients and consultants during searches and proposals within the platform.

Since 2022, venues with recognised sustainability credentials like ECOsmart and B Corp have been highlighted in the LOGiC Meetings platform. Now, those in the Sustainable Venue Programme are marked with a green leaf logo, making them easy to identify while still allowing bookers to access full certification details.

Anna Snoep, Inntel’s director of operations and ESG said: “By making it easy to identify sustainable venues during the meeting and event planning process, we are enabling our clients to make informed choices when selecting a venue.”

She added: “By clearly labelling sustainable venues in our online proposal, our clients can identify the more sustainable venue options in the blink of an eye. This is all part of our work to support our clients with achieving their sustainability goals.”

The Sustainable Venue Programme identifies venues that meet six essential sustainability criteria:

  1. Onsite Recycling – Venues must have a comprehensive recycling system in place, with clearly marked bins for effective waste management.
  2. Alternative to Buffet Lunches – Plated meals or pre-portioned options must be available to minimise food waste, with efforts to donate or repurpose excess food.
  3. ESG certification – Venues must hold a certification, such as Sustainable Tourism or ECOsmart, demonstrating their commitment to sustainability.
  4. Reduction Targets – Venues must set and actively pursue measurable sustainability targets, including reductions in energy use, waste, and water consumption.
  5. Zero Single-Use Plastics – Venues are required to implement a zero single-use plastics policy, opting for reusable or compostable alternatives where possible.
  6. Sustainable Event Operations – Venues should offer Sustainable meeting packages, digital alternatives to printed materials, and other sustainable event options.

The Sustainable Venue Programme is continuously reviewed, and updated annually by Inntel’s Supplier Partnerships Team and ESG specialists to ensure that sustainability standards remain effective. Venues self-certify to join the programme, with on-site inspections and spot checks completed throughout the year.
