Activity providers and fitness professionals from across the region will gather at Southsea’s Pyramids on 11 July 2024 for a networking event to encourage greater participation in physical activity.
The event is run by ukactive, the UK’s trade body for gyms and leisure centres that has the mission to get more people, more active, more often. The organisation represents over 4,000 members across the UK.
Representatives from Portsmouth’s local leisure, sport, and fitness facilities will come together for a day to ask questions, share concerns and discuss operational challenges to consider how fitness can be encouraged across the city and South-East England.
There will be several interactive workshops, engaging presentations and valuable networking opportunities within the venue’s event facilities overlooking Southsea Beach and The Solent.
Pyramids is owned by Portsmouth City Council and is operated by registered charity and social enterprise BH Live.
Alan Higginson, centre manager at Pyramids said: “One of BH Live’s charitable aims is to increase community participation in sport and leisure, it’s amazing to be working with ukactive, another non-profit organisation, to align our two missions.”
Danny Melling, ukactive’s interim director of membership experience, said: “Our Regional Member Network events are a great opportunity for our members to understand how ukactive are supporting the UKs physical activity sector to help keep more people active and accessing services.”
Natalie Brahma-Pearl, chief executive of Portsmouth City Council, who own Pyramids said: “We work hard to support and encourage healthy lifestyles in all our communities, and consistently promote positive physical health and activity. For this reason I’m delighted that ukactive have chosen Portsmouth to hold this event.”
In 2020/21, Pyramids was completely revamped by Portsmouth City Council, transforming dated event spaces and swimming facilities into more modern, sustainable and attractive facilities with wide appeal. BH Live helped to oversee the project by providing additional operational support.
