The Lanesborough London, part of the Oetker Collection of hotels, has partnered with Heartburn Cancer UK to offer hospitality and events professionals a free heartburn health check.

A mobile heartburn cancer testing unit will be available at the hotel on Grosvenor Place during Oesophageal Cancer Awareness Month, throughout February 2024.

Hospitality and events professionals are particularly prone to chronic heartburn due to high levels of stress and fluctuating work shifts and patterns, meaning they often eat on the run. Persistent heartburn is an often overlooked or ignored potential sign of cancer or a pre-cancerous condition, called Barrett’s oesophagus, that affects the food pipe.

The Lanesborough team know from first-hand experience, the dangers of ignoring persistent heartburn. It first caused the death of long-standing luggage porter, Fernando Oliveira in 2020.

Dean Timini, the husband of the executive head of sales and marketing, Jo Stevenson Timini, also died of the same cancer later that same year.  Both were in their late 40s or early 50s; both were long-term sufferers of heartburn, and neither had it checked until it was too late.

The Lanesborough has since made Heartburn Cancer UK its chosen charitable cause, and the team is committed to raising awareness of the issue.
