As we build back this year, Conference News’ publishers Mash Media and Event Hub.Jobs felt it was important for the industry to see how salaries, benefits and ways of working have changed and how they may change in the future.

The Annual Event Industry Salary Survey has been launched to collect this crucial data over the coming months, with the results to be published later this year.

To launch the survey this month we approached key industry employers to give us a taster of how things have changed.

As the only specialist event industry people and job board, EventHub.Jobs has been commissioned by Mash Media to create the definitive salary survey for the industry.

Commenting on the survey, Robert Kenward, specialist industry recruiter and founder of EventHub.Jobs, commented: “The world has changed and we as an industry need to understand what has changed and how. The much-publicised great resignation is already in force and employers and job seekers alike will benefit from knowing how their salaries, benefits and working arrangements compare with the wider industry.”

Margaret Reeves, managing director of RefTech agrees. She said: “A lot of people have left the industry and retrained and there is a general shortage of talent. I feel we have to be open to recruiting from outside of the industry if we want to get back up to pre-pandemic staffing numbers.”

Describing the importance of the survey, Liz Agostini, chief commercial officer, Mash Media, said: “We have lost a lot of people from the industry so having a space to connect people with employers, and being able to attract the right people, is essential.

“Mash’s publications are the natural meeting place for the events industry so it makes perfect sense for us to be supporting this vital research.”

Training, flexibility and and skillsets

Thomas Humphris, human resources director for Informa Markets, added: “The post-pandemic world is a different one. We are now more diverse in our approach and looking across multiple industries to ensure we have the right skillsets on our team.”

Organisers and suppliers alike are seeing the shift towards candidates asking about long-term prospects and training opportunities. “There is a lot more focus on opportunities for training and continued professional development than ever before,” said Humphris.

“People are also looking for a company with a sense of responsibility and values – commitment to inclusion, sustainability, and giving back. Flexibility is important, too. It’s worrying times for a lot of people – and we need to look after our teams.”

The survey can be found here and takes less than 10 minutes to complete.

Conference News will also be exploring the survey further in its upcoming agency issue.
