The New Era of Event Videos

Event videos are becoming increasingly more important as a marketing tool. Highlight videos, testimonials, speaker videos, stand tours and award winner reactions are just a few of the ways video can add value to an event. The big downside of video is that it can be costly and time consuming to produce.

However, there is a change in the video landscape that could be fantastic news for event organisers looking to leverage video content.

Marketing videos in general are shifting away from high production value ‘hero content’ to more authentic ‘voice of the customer’ style video. The YouTube generation is growing up and are used to seeing this more authentic production style. The super glossy content on Instagram is shifting to the more authentic and honest TikTok style videos. ‘Beauty’ filters are being swapped for novelty ‘ugly’ filters and if you go too glossy and polished, it feels like an advert or an out-of-date marketing video trying to sell you something. The videos that convert are the ones that don’t look like a traditional promotional video.

When it comes to content, we have entered the age of authenticity. Lo Fi is becoming the new king of content and it may be time for the fancy cameras with their blurry backgrounds to move over and make room for the humble mobile phone for capturing content. This, by the way, is also fantastic news for your budget.

A novel new approach to event video production and distribution is ShoutOut, and it’s taking the events industry by storm. ShoutOut completely re imagines the whole video production process.

Instead of filming videos clips then editing them together, you build your branding templates first, with your intro and outro, graphic overlays, name caption and music, then shoot your video clips on a smartphone. ShoutOut will then automatically combines the video clips with your template and create a finished video in seconds. You can also create event highlight videos and add subtitles and B roll to them using ShoutOut’s video making algorithm.

Videos are key to making an event a hybrid event experience. Yes, you can live stream your event, but short and snappy FOMO style videos play better on social media and are a lot cheaper. Previously, getting branded highlight videos, speaker videos etc up on social quickly can be a challenge. The file management alone can be tricky, especially when the venues WIFI is slow.

ShoutOut has an answer to this also using it’s cloud based workflow. You can have any member of your team creating automated videos at your event or uploading photos, while the social media manager accesses them in real time from their phone or computer and share natively to social media, edit, add automated subtitles or build automatic highlight videos, all without needing to learn how to edit. ShoutOut does in minutes what previously took hours and, as all the processing is done in the cloud, video processing won’t be affected by slow WIFI.

Because anyone can record on ShoutOut just via a URL or QR code, you can also send invites to speakers or exhibitors to record videos prior to your event or send links to winners to create and share their own fully branded videos. ShoutOut will also email your video contributors the final branded video in a few seconds or after you approve it, enabling them to share, and you to leverage their network to promote your event. It’s a classic win-win.
