Friends House, a sustainable venue in Central London, hosted ‘No Planning, No Planet’ lunch event on 30 November.

The event was organised in partnership with Quiet Company which runs Friends House, Greengage Solutions, Trident Hospitality and UK Harvest.

During the event, eventprofs talked about food waste in the industry and how they can help reduce it.

Participants gathered to listen to presentations from the organisers on key facts about climate emergency and how tackling food waste can play its part in reducing the impact upon the world.

They were also served lunch prepared by UK Harvest. The food served had been rescued from being wasted. Hospitality and Food Services produce 2.87m tonnes of waste every year (including food, packaging, and other non-food waste items).

“The aim of this lunch was to show that we throw food that is perfectly fine to eat which happens too often in our industry,” the venue commented.

Paul Henderson-Grey, CEO of Quiet Company, said: “Today, we planted seeds of thought about coming together as an industry for the greater good. I believe this is just the start of something bigger. And as COP26 has shown us, as an industry, we need to be part of the solution, not the problem. It won’t happen overnight but we hope to get more and more venues with taking a small step approach to solving the problem.”
