The Association of Surgeons in Training (ASiT) has confirmed that its UK National Conference will take place at Aberdeen’s P&J Live from 4-6 March 2022.

The conference is expected to welcome 600 delegates from across the UK, all of which come from the ten surgical specialities and range from medical student to higher surgical training levels.

ASiT was established to discuss and improve surgical training and is now one of the largest surgical speciality associations in the UK, with around 3,500 members.

Through its formal membership, ASiT provides trainee courses, courses, grants and bursaries for members; yearly conferences allow for education courses, scientific presentations and lectures on the topic of surgical training.

Lola Giwa, president of ASiT, said: “I’m very excited to bring the ASiT conference to Aberdeen for what is set to be an inspiring line up of talks, breakouts, courses and many networking opportunities to provide an enriching and enjoyable weekend for delegates, but to also help them on their surgical training path.”

Mr Manoj Kumar, regional surgical advisor for NHS Grampian, added: “The pandemic has highlighted the many existing and new challenges that we collectively face in healthcare, including the significant impact on surgical training, safe patient care and effective service provision. Aberdeen has a long-established foundation in surgical research and training, and we look forward to welcoming all our colleagues to the granite city to participate in this exciting event and continue to progress innovation in training and patient care to help mitigate these challenges.”

Nick Waight, managing director at P&J Live, commented: “Having recently hosted the British Orthopaedic Association Conference and the Trends in Medical Mycology Congress at the venue in 2021, we have successfully demonstrated our ability to deliver exceptional association conferences within the medical sector. Having built up a network of industry relationships, it has meant that we are now in a strong position to bid for other events in the sector. We are delighted to have secured this conference, further bolstering our partnership with the NHS and we look forward to showcasing our expertise to a national audience.”
