For our final session, Robert Kenward, chief cheerleader and founder, The Hub, Mike Frost, co-founder, Expocast, Natasha Layal, co-founder, Expocast and Sian Kelly, recruitment manager, Hyve, discuss ‘the big fat recruitment debate’.
Opening the discussion, the panel discussed how the pandemic has increased remote working and driven a better work-life balance. Kenward said: “The 9-5 may be dead, but you are then bringing in the 8am-8pm, which is dangerous for mental health and causes burn out.”
The panel also raised the subject of salaries. The big question asked was: should series be stated on adverts? Kenward says, “100%, absolutely, without a doubt.” Those attending the session agreed they would be put off for applying for a job if the salary is not shown.
Finally, the panel closed with a discussion about CV’s. Is there such thing as a perfect CV? Kenward reveals the misconception about CV’s. He commented: “the CV will get you a job, but it will not get you an interview.” He advises, asking whether you should apply for the role in the first place. “The most important part about applying is the email where you state why you have applied. It’s a two-liner.”
