In this session, we are joined by the Event First Step team: co-founders Priya Narain and Catlin Kobrak. They deep dive into the findings, both qualitative and quantitative, discussing where there is clear room for improvement, and share action points that you can take back to your team to ensure you are putting in the work to make real change.

Event First Steps created the first paper on racial diversity for the UK events industry.

The report sampled the following: 53% of senior-level eventprofs, 47% worked in the industry for over 10 years, 71% were female and 53% were white.

Overall, when asked how racially diverse is the MICE industry, 73% said there is little to none and 10% of the 73% said there is no diversity at all.

Another key question asked was: are eventprofs afraid to discuss diversity? 63% believe their workplace is inclusive, but only 41% feel they can bring up conversations about racial diversity with leaders.

How to take action

Encourage your workforce to have open discussions about race, listen to and engage with younger members of your organisation and eliminate the nepotism that excludes so many.
