Hyatt Place London City East, the first Hyatt Place hotel in Central London, opened yesterday (June 28), bringing street art, and City views to the heart of the city.
Located next to Aldgate East station, the hotel has 280 rooms, around 100 of which offer skyline views across the capital, including the Gherkin and Canary Wharf.
Thirteen of the bedrooms across the top two floors come with private outdoor terraces or balconies. Some floors are designated pet-friendly, and all the twin, double and king rooms feature a dedicated workspace, smart TV, free Wi-Fi and furniture. Some rooms also include sofa beds, while corner rooms can be configured to share a private entrance.
The hotel commissioned a series of London-based street artists and has one-off art pieces, local photography, and statement lighting inside. On arrival guests will see two abstract-style murals by Brixton-based abstract artist Olly Fathers.
Meanwhile, guests staying on the first-floor will see a three-metre high and 30 metres-long multi-coloured mural spanning the entire outside wall space – devised and painted by contemporary abstract artist Lothar Götz.
Art curators ARTIQ also worked on the hotel, with designs of local landmarks, architectural teasers, famous faces and urban aesthetics
The walls of the hotel’s Zoom Restaurant feature a spray-painted London Underground-inspired mural by fellow London-based artist Jay Kaes.
The casual, urban dining restaurant opens out into the Orangery conservatory. Next to the hotel’s reception area, The Market sells grab-and-go deli drinks and lunch items, and serves Starbucks coffee.
The hotel’s gin-led Pocketsquare Skyline Bar and Terrace, located on the ninth floor, is available for private hire.
The hotel also offers a 24-hour fitness centre on the lower ground floor with Technogym equipment and a free weight area.
Michael Mason-Shaw, general manager of Hyatt Place London City East, said: “Being located where the city meets the east, and a historic area poised for huge regeneration – including Whitechapel’s new Crossrail link – we’re confident that visitors staying with us will be best-placed to enjoy the capital.
