The Events Industry Alliance (EIA) has written an open letter to the Secretaries of State for Business and Culture, 11 March, warning of significant further job losses in the sector due to Government delays on a research and pilot programme that will provide the data and information to enable the sector to reopen over the coming months.

The letter tells of the EIA’s “extreme dismay” that nearly three weeks after prime minister Boris Johnson’s Roadmap to Reopening announcement, the Government has still not published any details of the Events Research Programme that was detailed in the announcement.

Under the Roadmap announcement large scale business events and exhibitions could be possible after 21 June, but only after data has been gathered in this Events Research Programme. The EIA said that given most business events and exhibitions take three months at a minimum to organise, delays to the Events Research Programme means that there is a risk that otherwise viable business events and exhibitions planned for early summer may not take place.
