A select bunch of UK meetings buyers got to test their inner artist thanks to a virtual painting Masterclass staged by The Netherlands Board of Tourism and Conventions and its partners.

The evening via Zoom was an opportunity to relax a little and disconnect and find out more about the tradition of painting the famous blue and white style ceramics.

Eric Bakermans, marketing director meetings and conventions, Netherlands Board of Tourism and Conventions, said the responses from the buyers to the experience had been “without exception positive”. “The casual approach made it a welcome distraction from everyday reality as we experience it at the moment,” he said.

“The Dis-Connect Masterclass was organised to simply have an informal contact moment with our target audience. Short but sweet with a joint activity and which has a recognisable relationship with the Netherlands. Many people have not had contact with the market for months, which was quite frequent before that time. It is important to be creative with the possibilities that are available and to organise a meaningful online moment in a personal way,” Bakermans added.

Royal Delft has been keeping the tradition of painting Delft Blue on ceramics alive since 1653.

While this editor’s effort is unlikely to take any crowns or pearl earrings from Vermeer, the UK group’s work showed some promising talent and evidence that a virtual Masterclass can pass on some great techniques as well as being great fun and a great connector.
