Barbican Estate Beech Street will become the first London road to ban petrol and diesel cars before the zero-emission ban in spring 2020.
Barbican Estate Beech Street is located near the Barbican Centre and in the City of London.
To enforce the emission ban, Transport for London (TfL) and The City of London Corporation (CLC) will create an experimental traffic order which will last 18 months.
This order will monitor the air quality and traffic, to ensure there is no toxicity. However, emergency vehicles, refuse collection and deliveries will be exempt. Vehicles which are not exempt will be fined £130.
Jeremy Simons, CLC Environment committee chair, said: “Drastically reducing air pollution requires radical actions, and these plans will help us eliminate toxic air on our streets.”
