Central Hall Westminster, a conference and events centre in London, has announced that it will host the closing ceremony of the One Young World Summit 2019.

The summit is an annual four-day event which aims to connect world leaders to create more effective leadership and will take place on 22-25 October in London.

Over 2,000 delegates will be attending from 190 countries and will be counselled by political, business and humanitarian leaders. These leaders include the Duchess of Sussex, Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau and Paul Polman.

Counsellors attending the event will include:

• Singer and activist, Sir Bob Geldof

• Former secretary general of the United Nations, Ban Ki-Moon

• Businessman, Sir Richard Branson

• Co-Founder of Twitter, Biz Stone

• Singer, Ellie Goulding

• Channel Four presenter and journalist, Jon Snow

• Danny Sriskandarajah, chief executive of Oxfam GB

The delegates will participate in four days of speeches, panels, networking and workshops. They will also be given the opportunity to deliver keynote speeches and interact with the world leaders.

The main themes in the plenary sessions of the event include climate change, media freedom, poverty alleviation, the future of learning and how to build peace in a polarised world.

The closing ceremony will be held in Central Hall’s Great Hall on 25 October. During the ceremony, there will be a ceremonial handover of the One Young World baton from the Lord Mayor of London to the Mayor of Munich, where next year’s event will be held.

Keynote speeches will be carried out by Paul Polman, the chair of One Young World Global Advisory Board, followed by a ribbon tying where delegates will write down their pledge to action.

Kate Robertson, co-Founder of One Young World, said: ”London is home to some of the world’s oldest institutions and buildings, with Central Hall Westminster being one of its flagship venues.

“It embodies every principle One Young World embraces as an organisation – from hosting the very first UN public address in 1946 to welcoming those from all walks of life throughout its rich history, we are honoured to be hosting our Closing Ceremony there. Young leaders representing over 190 countries will be celebrating the end of our 4-day Summit inside its walls; it gives us great pride to be bringing our event to a close in such a culturally significant location.”
