The Science Museum in London’s South Kensington is opening its doors to the Smith Centre for both daytime and evening hire, located on the ground floor of the Science Museum and originally constructed in 1890.

Recently refurbished, many of the building’s original features have been preserved to present four spaces of varying size: The Salon, The Courtyard Room, Large Meeting Room and Small Meeting Room.

Accommodating a range of events, the spaces can host guest numbers ranging from a small meeting of 8 delegates to a drinks reception for 200 in The Salon.

Among the original features is an open-plan courtyard area which can be used in conjunction with daytime hire of the Salon. This space also has a range of hand-picked historical objects from the Science Museum collection, including a Replica pressure suit from the last mission to the Moon and the Electrical Engineering Workshop painting by Terence Cuneo.

Clients can additionally hire one of the Science Museum’s galleries or events-dedicated space Illuminate in conjunction with the Smith Centre, enjoying a post-event dinner or drinks reception in the atmospheric museum spaces.

Jodie Guilford, business development and marketing manager at the Science Museum commented: “It’s fantastic to be expanding our events offering even further with the addition of the Smith Centre, with the exciting feature of an outdoor courtyard – perfect for the warm summer evenings!

“With integrated AV solutions in the Smith Centre and the existing museum spaces to choose from too, clients will also benefit from multi-space hire options, widening the scope of event formats from additional daytime space in the Flight gallery, to evening dinners and receptions in Illuminate.”
