Lizzy Dring, director of Right Angle Corporate Events and CN30 under Thirty winner, walks CN through a typical day.

No two days are ever the same in our office. From being asked to source unicorns for a corporate fun day (yes that did happen, and yes, we did get them) to creating bespoke team development programmes for young tech companies wanting to understand their team’s personalities.

We provide immersive teambuilding and team development experiences for the corporate market, working with clients such as Gumtree, KPMG, Toyota and Microsoft.

As director at Right Angle I am lucky enough to be involved with every department of the business, this means my days are varied, not only looking at the strategic overview and leading the company forwards, but also getting hands-on day-to-day.

We have an amazing team here which makes my job a lot easier. I’m also lucky. Right Angle is a family business with three members of my family full time, and my sister working on a freelance basis (and yes, we’ve had business meetings around a roast or a quick event catch up on holiday).

The day starts as any would, a huge mug of tea, checking the team have caught up on the enquiries that have come in overnight, laughing with the team about the last-minute requests for food that day for an attendee that is gluten free, dairy free, or can’t eat broad beans with their skins on.

Crime experiences are our niche, from ‘The Killing’, a crime scene investigation experience, to ‘Taken’ which is a live kidnap experience. You’d be surprised at the number of teams that cheer when they see the “hostage” video from their CEO who we’ve kidnapped. Due to the number of unusual events we run our office is full of very weird items from balaclavas, rolls and rolls of CSI tape, a whole archive of “exhibits”, tracking devices and fake money (as well as the office golden retriever, Murphy).

We’re in a fortunate position that we run our experiences with other agencies as well as our own clients, this means we run at least one event every day.

After the morning catch-up I focus on our digital presence, social media, checking marketing are keeping the website up to date with the latest news, identifying new partnerships and opportunities and writing on topics like teambuilding and mental wellbeing to Top 10 Tips for Planning Your Christmas Event. I use a fantastic online tool called Meistertask which is fundamentally a digital to do list, it helps organise all my ideas and tasks.

Being in a senior position I’m fortunate to be invited to some amazing events, today I am getting ready for the Global Event Summit with Conference News and Cvent in Chamonix.

Finally, the week, of course, ends with Fizz Friday (or beer for those who don’t like prosecco!).
