Students are increasingly seeking work in the hospitality industry and businesses operating in the sector should look to them as potential employees in the run up to Christmas, suggests hospitality recruitment platform, Adia.
The company has reported that the amount of students registered on its platform has surged by 83% in the last four months, compared to the first four months of 2018, as the new academic year approaches.
In addition, students now account for 44% of the total number of jobseekers on Adia’s platform, a figure that has steadily grown across the last 12 months.
A survey of 4,642 students by insurance firm Endsleigh and the National Union of Students found that around 77% of students worked. Sixty-six per cent of respondents said that they had a part-time job, while 33% of students worked part-time during term time.
“Students naturally look for sources of income to support themselves while studying, particularly if they’re moving away from home. It’s clear that many recognise our industry as one where there is an abundance of opportunities for work,” comments Adia CEO, Ernesto Lamaina.
“At a time when staffing shortages are high on the agenda for companies of all sizes – and with Christmas approaching, students should be viewed as quality and flexible part-time employees.”
