Leicestershire venue Scalford Hall closed on 28 August and the trading company has been put into liquidation, the business’ owner Colin Warburg has told CN.

He commented: “All staff have been made redundant and we thank them for their loyal service.” Warburg told CN he would update with further information “as appropriate”.

The venue, which emerged from administration earlier this year, has closed for a second time. The confirmation from Warburg comes after a BBC news report of a couple who claimed their wedding reception was ruined when chefs at Scalford Hall walked out during the meal.

Rebecca Veli had claimed her £7,000 reception at Scalford Hall Hotel near Melton Mowbray was a “disaster” citing a number of failures by the venue.

The hotel was taken over by new management only in January 2018 after running up debts and going into administration. That move saved 35 jobs.

The hotel has a troubled history, having previously called in the administrators back in 2013.

Mrs Veli said she had 60 guests at dinner when the chefs walked off before the starters arrived at her 4 August event.

The bride’s brother Ben, a trained chef, stepped in and plated up the food, which had already been cooked, the BBC reported.

Mrs Veli said staff managed to put on a barbecue for a further 60 guests in the evening, but then ran out of food.

“There was a lack of care across the board… The whole day was ruined and no-one is taking responsibility,” she told the BBC.

In a previous statement, Colin Warburg had admitted the 81-bedroom hotel was likely to close and that the focus was to “support both our existing customers and our wonderful team of staff through this challenging time”.
