Silverstone, the home of British Motor Racing welcomed a select group of meetings and events agents recently for a day of head-to-head racing on the circuit as part in the venue’s Ultimate Driving Day – an exhilarating team-building activity at the UK’s only Formula 1 track.
The event saw guests driving against the clock behind the wheels of the Magnificent 7 – seven high performance supercars. Competing in teams against other guests, the group was lucky enough to be the very first to drive the brand new Aston Martin V8 Vantage, which arrived at Silverstone that very morning despite not being available for the general public to drive until 16 July. They also drove a new BMW M2, a Ferrari F430 Coupe, a Caterham and a single seater F1 car among others, before being treated to a high-speed drive around the track by British professional and champion racing driver, Michael Lyons.
Fay Sharpe, vice-president BCD Meetings & Events, who attended the Ultimate Driving Day said: “The day at Silverstone exceeded all my expectations. The team looking after us were professional and friendly and the actual activity of driving cars was very well put together – exciting and most of all fun. It’s a unique ‘must do’ activity.”
The Ultimate Driving Day takes place at Silverstone’s British Racing Driver’s Clubhouse – one of the most exclusive ‘invite only’ racing driver’s club in the world. Guests enjoy a full English breakfast on arrival and can relax with their team mates over a two-course lunch, followed by a delicious afternoon tea at the end of the day. The menu is created by head chef, Dean Hoddle, with all dishes made using fresh, seasonal local produce, some of which is exclusive to Silverstone.
As well as enjoying a full day of competitive driving and thrilling experiences, guests receive souvenir photographs and video footage of them driving in the single seater F1 car, plus a certificate upon completion. There’s also an awards ceremony where prizes are handed to the Ultimate Driver.
