Manchester Central’s very own Duncan Leavitt has been crowned ‘Unsung Hero’ at the Association of Event Organisers (AEO) Excellence Awards.

Leavitt, technical services project manager, has been working at the venue since 1998 and has played an integral role in helping Manchester Central raise its profile as a premier venue, which now welcome 500,000 delegates annually.

Speaking about his award, Leavitt said: “It’s all a bit surreal really. I was shocked to be nominated and even more surprised to have won! Manchester Central isn’t just a job to me, I love the building from top to bottom – if you could build me a house in here I’d live in it”.

Shaun Hinds, CEO, said: “There’s not a bolt, screw or valve in Manchester Central that Duncan doesn’t know about, and we’re delighted that his hard work has been recognised. Duncan really does epitomise our ‘one team’ company value and whilst he might not necessarily always be seen by our visitors, it’s people like him who make all of the difference.”
