Breaking News: A fire has broken out at the 12-storey Mandarin Oriental luxury hotel in London’s Knightsbridge.
Over 100 firefighters were reported to be on the scene of the five-star hotel. There were no immediate reports of any casualties. The hotel group said it believed that all guests had been evacuated.
London Fire Brigade said it had dispatched 20 engines following emergency calls around 4pm.
A hotel spokesman was quoted as saying: “We are aware that there is a fire at Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London, and that the fire brigade is at the hotel.
“As the situation is still unfolding, we have no further details to share at this time, but will provide an update soon.”
The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.
Knightsbridge has been closed between Sloane Street and Grosvenor Place.
The hotel has just completed a major refurbishment of its 181 guest rooms and suites. Last week the Mandarin said the rooms were were “now more luxurious and comfortable than ever before”.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge held a gala dinner in the hotel’s grand ballroom before their wedding in 2011.
