DJ, producer and artist Goldie was host for the recent Turner Prize Awards ceremony in Hull.

The event, broadcast live on the BBC, was spread over two city centre venues. Pre-ceremony drinks and a private viewing of the Turner Prize exhibition were held at Ferens Art Gallery, before 200 invited guests moved onto the newly transformed Hull Minster for the awards ceremony.

The Turner Prize exhibition has been on display at the Ferens Art Gallery since September, with the work of shortlisted artists including Hurvin Anderson, Andrea Büttner, Lubaina Himid and Rosalind Nashashibi.

The winning artist was announced as Lubaina Himid who received a prize of £25,000 with the runners-up each receiving £5,000.

Anthony Yates, Visit Hull & East Yorkshire tourism manager, said: “Hosting the Turner prize exhibition has been amazing and has undoubtedly put us on the map in terms of art on a national and international level… Next year we look forward to working with two new additions to our venue portfolio. The newly opened DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel and the £36m state-of-the-art Hull venue will ultimately enhance our credentials in the business tourism field so we look forward to attracting many high profile events in the years to come.”

In preparation for its year as UK City of Culture, Hull city centre has undergone a multi-million pound make-over, including the £5.1m recently refurbished Ferens Art Gallery and the £4.5m transformation project of Hull Minster. Phase 2 of the project was recently completed and the medieval venue is now available for a wide range of events including cultural performances, recitals, exhibitions, receptions and dinners.

The Turner Prize 2017 exhibition will continue to be open to the public at Ferens Art Gallery until 7 January, 2018.
