The Jockey Club has confirmed Sophie Able as the new general manager of Newmarket Racecourses.

This new role was created on the back of the growth of the Jockey Club’s East Region and reports to East Regional director, Amy Starkey, who is responsible for the running of Newmarket’s Rowley Mile and July Course, Huntingdon, Market Rasen and Nottingham racecourses.

Able was previously Newmarket’s as head of sales.

On her appointment, Able said: “I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to further develop my career within The Jockey Club. There’s a great team in place who I’m very much looking forward to working with in this new role, staging racedays of fantastic quality and a wide range of events throughout the year. I am passionate about the success of Newmarket Racecourses, its status in the local community and in British Racing. We are lucky to welcome many of the world’s finest racehorses, jockeys and trainers to compete on the Flat and we will be working hard to provide them and all our customers with the best possible experience in the years ahead.”

Starkey added: “Sophie is extremely talented and, with considerable and varied experience in a number of roles within Jockey Club Racecourses, she is the ideal person to take up the new position of General Manager at Newmarket. She has made a most valuable contribution to the JCR East Region’s senior management team in recent years and has built strong relationships with the whole team in the Group as well as with horsemen, sponsors and other professional and commercial partners. I am very much looking forward to continuing working with Sophie to achieve further growth and success at Newmarket Racecourses.”
