Some people work to live, others live to work. But I’ve always believed if you love what you do it rarely feels like work at all.
I’m always on the go and I love it. I have a passion for people, especially like-minded people who challenge the status quo. That’s why I wear several hats.
I have a deal with my wife; she loves to travel, but I’m always ‘working’. So our deal is we can travel often but I’m going to take my ‘office’ with me.
There are times when I go offline, but it’s rare. Maybe when I’m sleeping. Ha!
Most of my time is focused on the launch of our new brand of small meeting venues, Bold. But I often bounce between hats, sometimes on the same day.
I always start my day reading industry news or blogs over breakfast – cheese omelette with toast and jam, coffee and OJ. I believe breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
Then I start with any emails that need attention. But no day or week is the same.
One recent particular Monday I started with a conference call to discuss an upcoming Future in 15 Show special feature at IACC’s annual conference in London. Then we published a new Future in 15 Show episode.
Following that, I put my Bold hat on and took the train to Holborn to view a potential space for our portfolio. Then over to Bold space number one to meet our coffee supplier, followed by an investor presentation and site visit.
The first half of Tuesday is spent on calls and emails with Future in 15 Show partners getting the new episode distributed, a tech related call with HBAA (Parker is on the board – Ed), coordinating with Bold contractors and reviewing a Bold space contract before taking the train to the M&I Forum with my ‘Select Event Solutions’ hat on.
The next 24 hours I spend building relationships with potential suppliers for the events we manage for our corporate clients. Wednesday night is back to Bold space 1 to meet with my co-founder and our CTO to discuss progress and our tech development pipeline.
Thursday morning is a debrief with Select Event Solutions MD on the suppliers and destinations, before an early afternoon Bold investor presentation.
Then it is off to the airport for a weekend in Nice, France, with the wife – my sixth time in France this year! Ah, but Friday morning is all about business, while she’s on the beach.
First a Bold accounting conference call before heading to Hotel Negresco for a site visit (which went on Instagram stories) for Select Event Solutions.
While exploring Nice, Eze and Monaco for the weekend, I squeezed in a drinks meeting with Tabea from Atout France to discuss some business opportunities. And back to London late Sunday night.
Then Monday we start again, this time riding the rails to Warwick Conferences in Coventry to plan our upcoming Future in 15 live shoot event with them. Then rails back to Bold space 1 for our weekly tech meeting at 7pm.
The rest of the week is a busy schedule with a new Future in 15 ‘short’ format being created, Bold space number 1 opening, closing a deal with CBRE for our next 16 Bold spaces, planning 2018 strategy for Select Event Solutions and, of course, supporting my HBAA colleagues.
I love it!
