The National Pensioners’ Parliament takes place in Blackpool next week, with up to a thousand delegates expected.
The annual conference, which has been held in the resort for 25 years, takes place in the Winter Gardens, 6 June.
A march along the promenade will kick-off the Parliament and delegates will then spend the next three days discussing a range of topics varying from state benefits and the NHS, to what Brexit means for older people. There will be a social event in the Empress Ballroom.
Neil Duncan-Jordan organises the conference in association with VisitBlackpool and says he is delighted to be bringing the event back again.
“Our Pensioners’ Parliament is all about giving older people a voice,” he says. “You don’t have to be a member of any association or group to attend, everyone is welcome and we look forward to hearing their opinions.”
Duncan-Jordan adds that the delegates enjoy visiting the town because it’s at the seaside and many go on to extend their stay into a break in Blackpool. “That’s increased in recent years because of the ongoing regeneration of the resort.”
Mandy Tythe-McCallum, Tourism Manager at VisitBlackpool, adds: “We are delighted to be welcoming the Pensioners’ Parliament back to Blackpool.
“This is a fantastic event for the resort both in attracting extra revenue for businesses and highlighting the concerns of pensioners today.”
