Another week and another revelation that has split the United Kingdom in two.
From a bleak-looking future for M25 users to Princess Anne burying a time capsule, it’s 10 things we learned this week.
1. Heath-grow
Unless you’ve been living in a cave you can’t have failed to hear that the Government has given Heathrow airport permission to expand. While some quarters have spent the week frothing at the mouth, the UK MICE industry generally welcomed the news…
2. Fire is still man’s oldest foe
Today, one of England’s oldest hotels – the Royal Clarence in Exeter, Devon – was ravaged by fire. Thankfully no injuries have been reported, but the extent of the damage is not yet clear as, at the time of writing, fire-fighters are still tackling the blaze.
3. Mr. Holland is not the president of France
When the news came in we thought the European Union had been thrown another curve ball, but it turns out Mr. Hollande isn’t going anywhere (yet). Not so. It turns out that Visit Holland’s cheerful mascot, Mr. Holland, has thrown in the towel instead.
4. The future sounds terrifying
You’d of thought that HRH The Princess Royal cutting another ribbon would be our top pick, but we’re more interested in the contents of the time capsule she buried. Local children were asked to list things they hope to see in 50 years time. Clearly number four hasn’t worked because if it did, someone would have come back to say “well done”.
5. Pure Events
West London-based Pure Events this week announced the appointment of head of the Event Marketing Association (EMA), Richard Waddington, as its chairman.
6. Birmingham booms
Birmingham is celebrating its best August and September hotel occupancy levels in the city since current records began in 2003. Good news indeed.
7. ICCA confirms something
The ICCA UK and Ireland Chapter has selected Manchester as host destination for the association’s annual debate, need we say any more?
8. App for ABPCO
ABPCO has decided that it needs a new app for its professional members. It is actually good idea. But what can you do with it?
9. 30 Euston Square to get a motorway
Well, a wi-fi motorway. We can’t really say much more here. You’ll have to click.
10. CN coming to a YouTube near you
Yes! We have started to embrace video. We’re going to be doing weekly newsrounds and a whole host of other things. Drop us a line a let us know if you’d like to be involved…
