What’s holding women back in the events industry?

Honestly? I don’t think it’s anything or anyone. Generally speaking, I believe there are more male entrepreneurs than female but from reading anecdotal evidence, that seems to apply to start ups and it therefore seems to suggest that women just don’t want to do that as much as men – there’s nothing at all wrong with that – it’s just the way it is. But that said we do have plenty of entrepreneurial women in our industry – Fay Sharpe, Emma Cartmell and Jacqui Kavanagh… and I could go on.

There may still be companies, perhaps with older management or owners, who don’t necessarily see women as equal to men, so women in those businesses might not get the career options that they deserve. But frankly, those managers and owners are morons and women in those businesses should simply remove themselves, get out and go somewhere else that appreciates them.

There are plenty of opportunities out there for women who want them.
