A major venue has taken a financial stake in an upcoming sports event.

The NEC Group owns 25% of the Sports Show, which will take place at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham next year.

The event is the brainchild of Superskills founder Ed Rusling and former rugby players Will Greenwood and Austin Healey.

It aims to bring together a variety of sports and fun activities under one roof, together with sporting celebrities to create an inspiring day out for families.

Paul Thandi, CEO of the NEC Group, said the NEC Group is always looking to identify new business opportunities.

He said: “While the Sports Show is a recent example of an event that the NEC has taken a financial stake in, we have successfully invested in co-promotion opportunities within our Arenas business for many years and aim to continue working with our customers and partners to identify and develop new opportunities across all of our platforms.

“In 2007, we launched The Ticket Factory, which has since become one of the UK’s leading ticketing agents. Working closely with our partners, we have also completely transformed our Arenas business, refurbishing the Barclaycard Arena and Genting Arena to create two venues. Most recently, we added to our portfolio of businesses with the opening of a brand new conference centre – the Vox – at Resorts World Birmingham.”
