The ICC Birmingham team met Prime Minister David Cameron during the Conservative Party Conference 2014. And thanks to the efforts of the ICC team, the Tories’ annual party conference is to return to the venue, in 2016, 2018 and 2020, despite lack of support from the Council whose leader Sir Albert Bore famously said he didn’t see the value in offering financial support to secure party political conferences for the city.
Marketing Birmingham, however, has estimated this year’s Tory conference, which draws to a close 2 October, will have generated £17m for the local economy. And that is not taking into account the value the city has gained from its business and social champions bending of ears of ministers for Birmingham-related causes.
The City Council is still to announce the winning bidder for its sale of the NEC Group.
